What was the cause of the Russo-Japanese war? What was the result of the conflict?

They were arguing over control of lands in Asia. I don't quite remember which ones, seeing as I'm studying world history currently. It was Korea I think. Anyway, Russian poured tons of money into the war, and sent tons of fleets, which all got annihilated by the Japanese. The Russians suffered a humiliating loss, seeing as they used to be one of the strongest nations in the world, they lost to the Japanese. This hurt their white supremacy mindset. It also was one of the many causes for the Russian revolution.
