Muslims: Organ removal after death, what are your views?

I don't like it personally, as I believe the Islamic way is to treat the dead body with utmost gentleness and respect, and hacking it open to take out organs doesn't fit with that, for me. On the other hand, there is the possibility of saving a life with one of those organs, so it is something that needs to be thought about. Perhaps if a person decides that they want to donate organs, maybe in that case it could be acceptable, but no way should organs be taken without the donor (not the family and not the doctors) having decided that's what they want to do beforehand. I think it's wrong to make people donate unless they specifically opt out, because lots of people will not have the time/inclination/ability to sign the opt out.
