Should I ask to be reimbursed?

My air conditioning unit in my apartment is located in the clothes closet in the ceiling. Last night I discovered it was leaking and that about 15 or so of my nice dress shirts I have for teaching were soaked and some had stains from what looked like maybe rusty water. I'll have to wash all of these shirts again now, some by themselves because of being delicate or new. Should I ask the landlord to cover the costs of laundering the items that were dirtied/stained because of the leak? Thanks.
